CJM05 :
Jaguar E-type Lowdrag 1964
Classic
Jaguar Miniatures had good reasons for making this gorgeous
slippery-shaped E-type, firstly it is one of my favourite
Jaguars ever made, and was a ground-breaking and very
advanced racing car for it's time in 1964 when raced at Le
Mans. I personally think with full Jaguar backing this car
could have won the race, but with Jaguar putting all their
efforts into the Peter's Lindner / Knocker Lowdrag which
raced against it, they were never going to help this
privateer team like I think they should. In the end Peter
Sargent and Peter Lumsden's effort failed due to a seal
fitted the wrong way round on the gearbox by Jaguar Cars,
this caused it's retirement whilst ahead of the Lindner /
Knocker E-type ( you make up your own minds on the seal
fitting !!! ).
The model was researched with the help of Dr. Samir Klat who
designed the lowdrag body and made by Brian Playford in
Aluminium, the real car included a nose that resembled a
Vanwall, flush fitting angled screen, restyled roof and tail
for less drag, 4 inch lower suspension by making new
suspension pick up points and running rear negative camber
and rammed air by a NACA bonnet duct.
The CJM
model faithfully represents the real car ( see COMMENTS tab
- Dr. Samir Klat ) right down to the twin 45 degree angled
exhaust it ran, high and low pressure vents and fly-catcher
screen supports in etch. The model is British Racing Green
with a Black interior, and available built or as a kit
version from the famous Le Mans 24 hour race.
